This main page covers our translations of stories set during the Aincrad Arc, including Progressive and its side content.

Progressive is a spin-off series written by Kawahara Reki that expands upon the events of the Aincrad Arc on a floor-by-floor basis, starting from the first floor. It was initially written as original content for the first season of the anime, until it spanned its own light novel series that was later adapted into manga format by a plethora of different artists. The Progresive light novel series has also inspired several animated movie adaptations.

Progressive: Scherzo of Deep Night (manga)

Scherzo of Deep Night is the manga adaptation of the 5th Floor story arc. The manga is drawn by Puyocha.

Volume 1

After the events of Barcarolle of Froth, Asuna and Kirito arrive to the 5th Floor. Home to catacombs, mazes, and dark corridors, the place became a hotspot for rampant player killers back in the beta. Soon, Asuna will find out just how dangerous it could be to get lost in the catacombs, where dangerous folk gather to plot their nefarious schemes.

Volume 2

Having discovered a player killer plot that incited one of the two top guilds into rushing to the boss room all on their own, Kirito and Asuna must now unravel the motivations behind the guild's reckless decision to have any hope of thwarting the player killer machinations before it leads to irreversible damage.

Volume 3

In order to thwart the Aincrad Liberation Squad's attempts to acquire an item that could break the fragile balance between the two major frontline guilds in SAO, Kirito has assembled a small raiding party of players interested in maintaining the equilibrium between the two powerhouses to defeat the 5th Floor Boss before the ALS can get to it. However, Kirito's force soon discovers that the giant golem boss from the beta has had a significant revamp compared to its simplistic beta counterpart. Can this ragtag team of players survive the unexpected gimmicks the new boss of the 5th Floor is endowed with and stop the ALS from obtaining a balance-breaking guild flag?

Progressive: Canon of the Golden Rule (manga)

The Canon of the Golden Rule is an incomplete manga adaptation of the 6th Floor story arc. The manga is drawn by Mugestu. The manga was cancelled after its 10th chapter after beginning to cover Progressive light novel volume 6 content.

Volume 1

Following the events of Scherzo of Deep Night, Asuna and Kirito arrive to the 6th Floor, the capital of all manner of puzzles. In order to acquire a sizeable experience point boost before the upcoming boss battle, the duo take on a long-winded quest known as the Curse of Stachyon. Having played through this quest in the beta, Kirito is unfazed when a plot twist in the midst of the quest has them incapacitated... but Kirito is not the only beta tester with knowledge of this particular surprise the quest had in store for them...

Volume 2

Having survived an unexpected ambush by the band of player killers during a paralysis event, Asuna and Kirito manage to reach the next area of the floor, where they can be reunited with their elven companion. Perhaps she could provide them with information on the mysterious weapons the player killers were armed with and how to counter the paralysis effect that they can inflict?

Re:Aincrad (manga)

Re:Aincrad is a reboot of the original Aincrad manga. The manga tells the story of the first Sword Art Online arc anew, blending anime material with material from the novel not covered by the anime. It also includes manga versions of certain side stories. This manga is drawn by Kimi.

Volume 1

On November 6, 2022, the world's first virtual reality massively multiplayer online role-playing game (VRMMORPG) Sword Art Online finally begins its official service. Ten thousand lucky players log into the game on the first day, brimming with excitement for the experience of a lifetime. However, the players soon find out that the game's lead developer Kayaba Akihiko has actually ensnared them into a game of death, where any player who loses their life in-game will be killed in the real world as well. One former beta tester named Kirito rushes out of town moments after this grand reveal to ensure his own survival by calling upon his beta test knowledge to strengthen himself.

On December 4, 2022, the frontline players finally managed to reach the 1st Floor's Boss Room. Beyond the door lies Illfang the Kobold Lord, the first boss the players will have to beat in order to earn back their freedom. Armed with knowledge on the boss's attack patterns from the game's beta test period, the players set out to prove that the game can be beaten. But little do they know that there's a nasty surprise awaiting those overly reliant on beta test knowledge...

The Next Day

Sword Art Online Progressive: The Next Day (ソードアート・オンライン　プログレッシブ　次の日) is a side story released as the 3rd week cinema bonus for the Aria of a Starless Night movie.

7 November, 2022 marks the second day of nearly ten thousand players being trapped in Sword Art Online. After being betrayed by Coper the previous evening, Kirito finds it hard to rise from his bed... until he's visited by a certain whiskered girl. Due to quests now having a cooldown time that prevents players from taking up the same quest one after another, the two of them find themselves forming an impromptu party to take on a certain quest in Horunka...

      Chapter 8 has already been posted...

      Chapter 9 has already been translated and typeset. We're just waiting for Mtt to finish QCing... and I have no idea how long that's going to take, unfortunately.
