[Kiss&Fly manga] The Day After

Merry Christmas to all those who celebrate it. It's that time of the year where we're supposed to get together with our families for a Christmas dinner... emphasis on supposed to, seeing as the pandemic situation in my country has got so bad that we decided to have a virtual dinner with our extended family this year instead. So to alleviate the lack of Christmas cheer this year, here's a little Christmas gift from us: a nice helping of Christmas despair!... and I just got word that the Grinch stole the despair, so we'll have to make do with a bittersweet story instead... as if Corona wasn't trouble enough...

Anyway, since it's Christmas, you know what that means... some reminiscing about Sachi's death with The Day After, manga edition. Yes, Kiss and Fly's finally getting a release after like 9 months of me being too demotivated by the overblown page count to actually continue working on it, I mean, being too preoccupied with other stuff to afford the time for this project. To make up for this, we're planning another Kiss and Fly release for the New Year. Seeing as the New Year was when we got the Extra Edition, it's the perfect time to get started on the Rainbow Bridge manga (which is divided into several parts, unlike the previous side stories)!

I hope you enjoy the release. If you have any suggestions/requests for what to work on, feel free to leave a comment or contact us through Twitter/Discord/Email.

Finally, a standard thank you to all of those who contributed to the SAO Scans project for helping us get the raws.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Translation (choice/nuance) comments:
  • ALO spell incantations are based on Old Norse, but the manga artist only wrote down the Japanese translation of the spellwords for some reason. Seeing as the characters reference the spell incantations as being different from regular Japanese, we decided to use the actual Old Norse incantation for the bubbles, with an English translation in T/L notes.
  • Klein and Agil use masculine casual speech in the original text, so their lines were translated with more slang and abbreviations. Especially Klein, since he's more slangy than Agil.
  • Klein refers to Kirito as Kiri-no-ji (キリの字). -の字 seems to have been added to the first characters in a person's name to make a nickname for them in the Edo period.

  1. Thanks for your hard work.

I gotta say, on page 15/16 when Asuna was logging off from the Amusphere, the turn-off effect had the letters kind of close to each other so I kind of misread it at first glance. Not that it's a big deal or anything, but I thought it was something to note.

Just a tiny typo on the second last page with 'hairstyl'. ;)
