[Kiss&Fly manga] Rainbow Bridge (I/III)

Happy New Year everyone! Since December 31, 2013 was the day the Extra Edition was released on, we decided to release the first chapter of its sequel (manga ver.) on the first day of the new year! Unlike the previous Kiss & Fly side story adaptations, the Rainbow Bridge manga is divided into three parts (probably due to tankobon size concerns), the first of which was released with the first tankoubon volume, the second - with SAO Magazine vol 10, while the third hasn't even been released... or even received a release date yet. So, with this release, we finished translating the first volume of the Kiss & Fly manga! This chapter adapts parts 1 and 2 of the original story + a flashback of the Extra Edition quest. In other words, it mostly just sets up the story.

Seeing as the final part doesn't yet have a release date, we won't really be in a hurry to work on part 2, especially since we just had two Kiss & Fly releases in a row. I'll work on it when I find the time, since the cakeverse story will be my main focus in the coming weeks. We're planning to release the first part of it next week and this part features Alice and Lipia... getting into a best daddy fight? Admi-chan is getting jealous...

I hope you enjoy the release. If you have any suggestions/requests for what to work on, feel free to leave a comment or contact us through Twitter/Discord/Email.

Finally, a standard thank you to all of those who contributed to the SAO Scans project for helping us get the raws.

Any feedback is appreciated.

Translation (choice/nuance) comments:
  • Klein and Agil use masculine casual speech in the original text, so their lines were translated with more slang and abbreviations. Especially Klein, since he's more slangy than Agil.
  • Klein refers to Kirito as Kiri-no-ji (キリの字). -の字 seems to have been added to the first characters in a person's name to make a nickname for them in the Edo period.
  • On page 8, the English word "Lord" is misspelled as "load" in the raw. A similar misspelling existed in the original side story text.
  • Nerakk/Krakken uses archaic grammar. This is represented by using archaic forms of the word "you" (thou and its derivatives for singular, ye for plural)
  • Since the name Æsir in Japanese is translated as アース神族 (Aesir family of gods), I use The Æsir with a definite article to account for this in the translation, since spamming "Aesir pantheon" would get very annoying, very fast.
  • The word Mimuro (御室) means "home of a nobleman". However, it's treated as some proper noun in this story. For reference, Daisuki subs for the Extra Edition translated the word as "resting place", while Crunchyroll translated the word as "home".
  • Klein's remarks about Odin refers to a Summon Monster in Final Fantasy.
  • The pizza thing is a callback to the first day of SAO the game (V1 of the novel, episode 1 of season 1 of the anime).
  • I left all the udon names as is. Don't make the mistake of revealing that you have a dirty mind by assuming that "bukkake" refers to a sexual act, like a certain member of our staff did. It just refers to the action of pouring something with enough momentum to cause a splash in Japanese.

  1. Would it really be a daddy fight in Lipia's case...?
