[ME:Remix] Material Edition 3 - Ceramic Heart

Important note: If you're reading on the blog, I suggest clicking on the images before reading them to see the original file. The thumbnails are kinda grainy, possibly because the original files were very large.

It's the end of the first month of the year. I hope 2021 has been considerably better to you all than icky 2020 proved to be (totally not what we think every year, right?). So, to celebate the occasion, here's the second and last manga format Material Edition: Remix story focused on Yui!

Ceramic is the third installment of Kawahara Reki's doujinshi series of stories that he released in a doujinshi event known as COMITIA. You'll notice that I skipped a "second" installment... which was just a collection of the author's (very) early character designs. They weren't redone for the Remix version, so I didn't see any point to redoing them. Like The Progressers, Ceramic Heart was written and drawn in manga format by the author and features a story about Yui deliberating about what love truly means. Although this story had already been translated by Tap years ago, when the Material Editions were compiled into the Material Edition:Remix compilation that the author published through Dengeki, the artist of the Phantom Bullet and Project Alicization manga took up to redo the art for MEs 1 and 3 with more up-to-date designs of the characters, and we decided to retranslate the story to republish it with the new art. Also, Tap's version seemed to be missing one page for some reason... so now you have the full story and with better art!

For the most part, aside from the new art, the Remix version of ME3 isn't all that different from the original story. There have been a few changes, such as removing some bubbles and re-ordering some panels, but there are no major changes to the story itself. Luckily, ME3 had far fewer notes from the author himself than ME1 did... on the other hand, some of the lines here were pretty hard to translate... yikes.

As I mentioned before, the Remix only had 2 actual manga stories. Aside from ME2, which is just a collection of design art, all the other Material Editions were in text format, so there isn't (or at least, shouldn't be) anything different about them compared to the original releases. As such, we don't really see any need to redo translations for them at this point.

For next week, our provisional plan is to release IWCWT part 3... that is, if I don't die from overwork this week, since I've got two 6+12 hour shifts coming this week... oh boi. If I have trouble getting the translation done on time, I might switch to an easier-to-do project, so our plans aren't final just yet!

Anyway, I hope you enjoy the release. If you have any suggestions/requests for what to work on, feel free to leave a comment or contact us through Twitter/Discord/Email.

Finally, a standard thank you to all of those who contributed to the SAO Scans project for helping us get the raws.

  1. About 1/3 of Salvia and the MTB is new/rewritten, so it's also in need of a new translation

    1. Hmm, yes, there does seem to be some new stuff... but I wouldn't really say 1/3. The majority of the story is the exact same or with only minor differences. The only major difference is the addition of references to the main story events.

    2. I'm glad to hear it's less then I thought.
