The Sword Art Online Comic Anthology (ソードアート・オンライン コミックアンソロジー) is an official collection of SAO-themed one-off manga shorts by a variety of illustrators. Seeing as we finished working on the first volume of the anthology, we now plan to work on the second volume as well. The stories in this volume are no longer limited to just Sword Art Online. While some still take place in the death game, quite a few of them are either set in ALO, or the real world after the Fairy Dance Arc. All the stories in the anthology should probably only be regarded as "officially published doujinshi" or something, since I doubt that they're canon. All the stories in the anthology vary greatly in art style, plot and genre.
Since the Comic Anthologies are not our main priority, I cannot guarantee a stable release schedule for them. But seeing as we've just finished the Ordinal Scale manga project, we'll probably need Comic Anthology releases to fill in the gaps between our other releases, so I do expect that they won't take as long as they used to.
The first release is planned for later today and will feature an onsen episode.

Might be asking this a bit early, so forgive me if I sound impatient, but do you also plan on doing the more recent anthologies at some point?
ReplyDeleteHow far we go with releases depends on our availability and what other projects we are working on at the moment, which is why I prefer planning our work on a per-volume basis. So basically, it's too early for me to say whether we'll be working on the latest releases at this point in time.
