[Progressive manga] Scherzo of Deep Night - Chapter 014

Hey everyone. It's been nearly a whole month since our last release. Sorry for the delays, we've been kinda busy in real life lately... I haven't managed to get any decent translation work done due to work... and then, after two years, COVID finally managed to catch me off guard... at home. Luckily, Mtt finished a manga QC for this week, as I wasn't feeling well enough to work on any new translations.

Chapter 14 continues covering the boss fight. Kirito's raid goes on a counterattack... only to be met with a nasty surprise...

I hope you enjoy the release. If you have any suggestions/requests for what to work on, feel free to leave a comment or contact us through Twitter/Discord/Email.

Finally, a standard thank you to all of those who contributed to the SAO Scans project for helping us get the raws.

Translation (choice/nuance) comments:
  • Page 01: "Parallel" is short for the "Parallel Sting" Sword Skill.
  • Page 03+: Argo has a speech quirk wherein she changes the last kana (usually a sentence ending particle) in her sentence to katakana, when it would normally be written in hiragana. This is accounted for by emphasising the final letter in her sentence in the translation (making it capitalised or look bigger). Argo also speaks in boyish tone, so I made her language more casual.
  • Page 05: The original text had "FullDive Non-Conformity" (フルダイブ不適合) in furigana over "FNC".
  • Page 06: "OK" was written in the Western alphabet in the original text.
  • Page 06: "a nice save" - in the original text, Argo used the Ingurisshu phrase "nice follow" (ナイスフォロー), which sounds awkward in genuine English sentences. Changed it to "nice save" to sound more natural".
  • Page 06: "POT" was written in capital Western alphabet letters in the original text. It's short for the word "potion".
  • Page 07+: "targeting reticle" - the original phrase was "targcircle" (タゲサークル) from "target circle". Changed to "targeting reticle" to sound more natural. All later instances of "circle" are replaced with "reticle" as well.
  • Page 10: The original text used the Greek letter β for the word "beta", with the reading ベータ (behta) as furigana.
  • Page 11+: I used "all hands" for the word 全員 (all members) for variety in lexicon while keeping it short, since long words cost time to say.
  • Page 17: The word "roar" (雄叫び) had "debuff" (デバフ) as furigana.
Adaptation notes:
  • The novel didn't make the Kirito catching Nezha scene look so... yaoish
  • Hafner's line on page 7 was meant to be Agil's line... and Agil was supposed to be on the other end of the room by then.
  • The boss was supposed to have six HP bars, not five.
  • The dialogue about party formation on page 13 were just Kirito's internal monologue in the novel.
  • In the novel, the boss's HP bar didn't go down so quickly. After Asuna, Argo, and Kirito attacked an arm together, it still had quite a bit left in its first HP bar. It took ten minutes of repeating their pattern of luring out the limbs and then striking them with Sword Skills before the raid managed to empty the first bar.
  • When Kirito ordered the raid party to retreat, the boss was supposed to still have three HP bars left, not two
  • Various dialogue trimming.

  1. Good afternoon, I'm Brazilian, I would like to know if there are plans to bring a translation of the novel Memorable Song, which came with the blu-ray of the movie Progressive?

    1. I'll probably do it at some point, but I have to finish up certain other projects first. I'm already behind on a lot of stuff due to RLstuff.

    1. We do plan to continue it. But real life has been hectic for us, so I have no idea when we'll manage to post it. For what it's worth, the next chapter is already translated and is currently stuck in typesetting hell, because the typesetter had something come up.
